All history is worth sharing, for it took a diverse community to create what we all enjoy today.
I will start with acknowledging that the role of the tour guide can take the traveler in a multitude of directions, figurative and literally. While adventuring about, the desires of the traveler may vary from a deep desire to learn to light sightseeing, and make no mistake, Tybee Tour Company offers both. Led by historian and retired educator, Jacilyn Ledford, sharing the fun and fascinating history of Tybee Island became the goal beginning in March of 2022. While it took until 2023 to begin the public offerings of our islands history, it was well worth the wait. As the robust island history unfolded through continued and extensive research, it was paramount to share the stories of ALL who have impacted the Tybee Island we love and enjoy today. Common names boasted around the island such as Fort Screven, Oglethorpe, Nina Anderson Pape are stories that were easy to curate and lovely history to share, but a new joy has truly been discovered in giving presence and power to those untold heros and minority voices such as the natives groups of the Yuchi, Walter Brown, Jack Mungin, James Adams, and of course TS Chu.
With a robust selection of powerful minority stories worth sharing, Tybee Tour Company was recently coined as 'Knowledgeable Rebels', and we could not be more proud. There is a point of satisfaction in sharing a story that is typically over looked or unshared. We aim to educate and create an appreciation for all who had a hand in creating a home on our favorite sand barrier island.
All history is worth sharing, for it took a diverse community to create what we all enjoy today.
We welcome EVERYONE to our tours and to Tybee Island, for our island was created by and sustained by so many.
